Sue Kelly, 73, of Pleasant Plains, passed away on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2021, at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Jonesboro after complications from heart surgery. She was born in Batesville on December 2, 1947 to Ernest Carpenter and Glendine Johnson Carpenter.
Sue was a devoted Navy/Coast Guard wife for 20 years living in such places as Hawaii and Alaska. After retirement, she owned and operated the Pleasant Plains Video Mart in Pleasant Plains and was also a chairman of the Pleasant Plains Neighborhood Watch.
She was also an excellent seamstress making quilts, blankets, clothes for family and friends, and made gowns for babies in the hospital.
Sue loved her family and customers and will be dearly missed.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Carpenter and Glendine Carpenter, her husband, CW03 Gene Lee Kelly; her brother, Richard Griffin, and a sister, Joy May Goforth.
Sue is survived by her son, Scott Kelly of Pleasant Plains; a daughter, Debbie Kelly of Maumelle; sisters, Charlene Brown of Cave City and Jane Rainey of Higginson; and a brother, Gerald Carpenter of Lake Charles, LA.
A celebration of life will be Friday, February 26th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Doty Southside Funeral Service, 2180 Batesville Blvd, Southside. Interment will follow the service in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions attendees are required to wear masks upon entering the facility and to observe social distancing.
